About our school Waikino School is a beautiful rural kura nestled in the hills of Waikino, within the stunning Karangahake Gorge between Paeroa and Waihi. Surrounded by native bush, rivers, walking tracks, and rich local history, our school is at the heart of a welcoming and supportive community. With a roll of approximately 85 students, every child is known, valued, and supported. Whanaungatanga is central to our strong relationships with tamariki, whānau, staff, iwi, and our wider community. Our school grounds provide a rich environment for learning, creativity, and connection. We have a connection with our local iwi, a heated swimming pool, established gardens, chickens, a pizza oven, and a dedicated kitchen area currently used as a design technology space. Our established ngahere provides an authentic outdoor learning environment and reflects our deep connection to te taiao, environmental learning, and sustainability. This is an exciting time to join our kura as we implement our 2027–2028 Strategic Plan, refreshed curriculum, and renewed school values.
