About the Role Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua | MidCentral is looking for an experienced Registered Nurse to join the Crisis Resolution Service, part of Te Uru Rauhi, Mental Health and Addictions Service, based in Palmerston North. This role provides timely, safe, and recovery-focused mental health care to tangata whaiora experiencing acute mental distress. You will undertake rapid assessments, provide crisis intervention and risk management, and work in partnership with tangata whaiora and their whānau to support wellbeing, safety, and recovery. The Crisis Resolution Service works across a range of settings and supports both new referrals and community teams requiring after-hours support. This is a rostered and rotating shift work position, requiring flexibility, adaptability, and confidence working in acute and changing environments. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team, Emergency Department, Police, inpatient services, hospital wards, local iwi, NGOs, and community agencies to support safe transitions, coordinated care, and positive outcomes for tangata whaiora and their whānau. About you You will be a Registered Nurse with a calm, recovery-focused approach and a genuine commitment to supporting people experiencing acute mental distress. You will bring: A qualification as a Registered Nurse, Comprehensive or Psychiatric, and a current practising certificate A minimum of three years' experience working in a mental health setting Confidence in acute assessment, risk management, and crisis intervention The ability to build positive working relationships with tangata whaiora, whānau, colleagues, and partner agencies A strong understanding of culturally safe practice and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles It would be advantageous if you also have, or are willing to work towards: Current Duly Authorised Officer status Postgraduate qualifications Proficient to Expert PDRPA comprehensive understanding of relevant legislation, including the Mental Health Act, Bill of Rights, SACAT, and PPPR About the Team/Service The Crisis Resolution Service provides acute mental health assessment, intervention, and support for tangata whaiora presenting in distress, including after-hours support to community teams. The service supports safe, recovery-focused care and works to promote community-based options where appropriate.
