We have an exciting fixed-term opportunity for an experienced strategic finance professional to join our Strategic Finance team through to June 2027.
\nAs a Senior Advisor Strategic Finance, you'll play a key role in supporting investment planning, business cases, budget initiatives, and strategic financial analysis across Oranga Tamariki.
\nYou’ll help shape organisational decision‑making by providing high‑quality advice that integrates financial, performance, policy, and investment perspectives.
\nWorking closely with senior leaders, central agencies, and stakeholders across the organisation, you’ll contribute to the development of investment plans, undertake cost‑benefit analysis, identify opportunities for improvement, and help ensure the effective use of public resources.
Key responsibilities include:\n- \n
- Supporting budget processes, investment planning and strategic initiatives \n
- Developing business cases and funding proposals \n
- Providing financial modelling, forecasting and scenario analysis \n
- Undertaking cost‑benefit analysis and evaluating investment opportunities \n
- Preparing strategic advice and briefings for senior leaders and Ministers \n
- Building strong relationships across Oranga Tamariki, Treasury and other central agencies \n
- Supporting the development of financial policies, guidance and performance reporting. \n

- Strong strategic analysis and problem‑solving skills \n
- Experience analysing financial and non‑financial data to support decision‑making, particularly in a public sector setting \n
- A track record of developing and implementing initiatives aligned to organisational strategy \n
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly \n
- Experience developing models, forecasts and business cases \n
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills \n
- The ability to think strategically and identify opportunities that improve organisational performance \n
- Knowledge of government budget processes, investment planning or policy development environments \n
- An understanding and appreciation of tikanga Māori and the diverse communities we serve. \n
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Finance, Policy, Commerce or a related discipline is preferred. \n
- Experience working within central government would be advantageous. \n

- Oranga Tamariki offer a step‑based remuneration package, that offers progression annually for experience through tenure. \n
- Annual remuneration for this position starts between $125,926 and $139,459 dependent on experience. \n
