This is a rewarding role where you will play an important part in supporting patients, staff and visitors by maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across our hospital facilities, while also providing orderly services. About the role As a Cleaner/Orderly, you will be responsible for maintaining clean, safe and hygienic clinical and non-clinical environments. You will also assist with the safe and timely movement of patients, equipment and materials throughout the hospital. Cleaning assigned clinical and non-clinical areas in accordance with Health New Zealand cleaning standards and work schedules Maintaining consistently high standards of cleanliness and presentation Following infection prevention and control practices and using approved cleaning products and equipment Safely managing waste and body fluid spills in accordance with organisational procedures Operating, cleaning and maintaining commercial cleaning equipment Monitoring and replenishing cleaning supplies and reporting stock shortages Safely storing cleaning chemicals and equipment Providing safe, timely and professional patient, equipment and material transfers Supporting a positive patient experience and the efficient operation of the hospital About you You will be a reliable and practical person who takes pride in your work and enjoys being part of a team. You will understand the importance of providing a clean, safe and respectful environment for patients, visitors and staff. To be successful, you will have: Previous experience in cleaning, housekeeping, hospitality or a similar service environment is preferred The ability to follow procedures, instructions and health and safety requirements A strong understanding of the importance of cleanliness, hygiene and safety Good communication skills and the ability to interact respectfully with patients, visitors and staff The ability to work effectively as part of a team Professionalism and the ability to maintain confidentiality The physical ability to undertake the requirements of the role, including standing, bending, lifting and moving equipment A commitment to Health and Safety, Infection Prevention and Control and organisational policies and procedures It would be an advantage if you have: Previous experience in healthcare, aged care, hospitality or another highly regulated environment Experience using commercial cleaning equipment and healthcare cleaning products Knowledge of healthcare cleaning standards and infection prevention and control Knowledge of safe chemical handling and use of PPE Experience working independently and managing tasks within agreed timeframes A willingness to undertake training and continue developing your skills A positive attitude, strong work ethic and commitment to teamwork and excellent customer service Working at Health New Zealand Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
