About the Team The Core Tribe is responsible for the systems and services that sit at the heart of ASB's banking operations. The Tribe is focused on running and modernising core banking platforms, ensuring they remain secure, resilient and ready to support future innovation. Its mission is to strengthen the foundations of banking by modernising core platforms while maintaining the stability and reliability our customers and colleagues depend on every day. Unlike many engineering roles, this position isn't tied to a single squad. You'll work across multiple teams within the Tribe, helping to uplift platform reliability, infrastructure capability, automation and operational excellence across a broad range of critical services. About the Role This is a senior technical role combining platform engineering, infrastructure operations, automation and site reliability practices. You'll help manage and improve a predominantly on-premises environment with growing cloud and container platform adoption, including Azure and AKS. Working closely with engineers, product teams and operational stakeholders, you'll improve how platforms are built, monitored, secured and maintained. You'll look for opportunities to automate repetitive work, strengthen resilience, improve observability and ensure critical services remain available and secure. Success in this role means balancing day-to-day operational excellence with longer-term platform improvements that help ASB scale and modernise its technology landscape. Key Responsibilities Maintain and optimise critical Windows and Linux server environments Drive vulnerability remediation and platform security improvements Improve patching processes through automation and engineering-led solutions Support reliable, secure, and highly available services across the Core Tribe Design and implement operational tooling, monitoring and alerting solutions Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting platform and infrastructure delivery Improve observability through dashboards, metrics, logging and alerting Identify operational risks and implement preventative controls Participate in incident response activities and post-incident reviews when required Develop automation to improve platform management, security and operational efficiency Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks and operational procedures Promote modern engineering, reliability and automation practices across teams Collaborate across squads to solve complex platform and infrastructure challenges About You You're an experienced infrastructure and platform engineering professional who enjoys solving complex technical problems and improving the way things work. You're equally comfortable diving into operational issues, building automation solutions, or helping teams adopt better engineering practices. You'll bring a strong sense of ownership, a pragmatic approach to problem solving, and the ability to balance operational reliability with continuous improvement. You'll enjoy working across a variety of technologies and collaborating with teams to deliver outcomes that genuinely make a difference. Key Skills & Experience Must-have 10+ years of experience in infrastructure, platform engineering, site reliability engineering, or related disciplines Strong Windows and Linux server administration experience Proven experience managing and maintaining enterprise infrastructure environments Expertise in PowerShell and Python scripting Experience with infrastructure and platform automation Strong vulnerability management and patching experience across server and container environments Experience supporting and improving production services in complex enterprise environments Experience with Azure cloud services and hybrid infrastructure environments Strong experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines Experience with Git-based source control and modern DevOps practices Strong monitoring, observability and operational support experience Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders Experience leading technical initiatives and influencing engineering best practice Highly Desirable Platform engineering or Site Reliability Engineering experience Experience with Ansible or similar automation/orchestration platforms Experience with Kibana and observability tooling Experience with certificate management and enterprise networking concepts Experience supporting highly regulated or large-scale enterprise environments Working for ASB At ASB, we want our people to thrive both professionally and personally.
