These facilities are operated by Ara Poutama Aotearoa (Department of Corrections) and designed to assist individuals to develop important life skills within a supportive and supervised environment in order to successfully reintegrate back into the community. We are looking for a Senior Residence Supervisor to join our team at the Matawhaiti Residence based at Christchurch Men's Prison. In this role you will support the Residence Manager with day-to-day operations, manage risk, oversee resident management plans, and ensure legislative and operational requirements are met. This role has a strong people leadership component which includes supporting and mentoring Residence Supervisors, direct management of casual staff, roster planning and forecasting, and supporting the ongoing development of staff onboarding and capability. As the designated Deputy Residence Manager, you will exercise statutory powers and responsibilities when the Residence Manager is absent, including responding to incidents, making operational decisions, managing risk, and providing leadership during emergency situations. Our staff work a cyclic roster that includes night shifts, weekends and public holidays and a typical shift is 12 hours in length. You would be working mostly a daytime profile across seven days, but flexibility may be required to engage with staff on night shift (in the early evening or early morning) if needed on occasion. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced people leader to make a meaningful contribution to public safety while supporting positive outcomes for individuals with complex needs. This a fixed term opportunity until June 2027 due to operational requirements. Mōu | About you Previous experience leading and/or mentoring staff Experience managing staff rosters, leave processes and day-to-day operational requirements Experience working in a residential, custodial, social services or similar environment supporting people with complex needs Confidence working in a highly regulated environment and interpreting legislation, policies and procedures An understanding of risk management and a proven ability to respond effectively to incidents or challenging situations Strong judgement and the ability to make safe, practical and well-reasoned decisions Resilience, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries Cultural awareness and responsiveness, including an understanding of tikanga Māori and the importance of delivering culturally responsive services Ngā painga | The benefits The starting salary range for this role is Step 1 of Scale A in the Frontline Manager's Collective agreement which is $93, 905 per annum.
