Teacher of Whakairo, Term 1 2027

Rangitoto College is seeking a permanent Toi Whakairo teacher to join our Māori (Te Manu Taki) Department to start Term 1 2027. Role overview As a Whakairo teacher, the successful applicant will be pivotal in delivering high-quality, culturally responsive education in the Toi Whakairo curriculum. Responsibilities will include developing and implementing engaging lesson plans, fostering a supportive learning environment, and contributing to the overall cultural enrichment of our school community. Please refer to the attached job description for specific details of the role. Key responsibilities Teach Toi Whakairo across various year levels. Develop and implement culturally relevant and dynamic lesson plans. Support and encourage students’ language development and cultural understanding. Collaborate with colleagues to enhance cross-curricular integration of Māori pathways. Participate in school-wide cultural initiatives and professional development. Qualifications and skills A relevant teaching qualification and current registration with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand. Proficiency in Toi Whakairo and a deep understanding of Māori culture. The ability to teach Te Reo Māori is beneficial however, not required. Strong communication skills and the ability to engage and inspire students. A commitment to ongoing professional development and cultural competency.
