About the Role The purpose of theMHSW role is to provideactive supportforclientswhoresidein the Regional and National IntellectualDisability Secure Service (RIDSS/NIDSS).This includes walkingalongside clients as they engage in therapeutic, vocational andquality-of-life-inducing activities within the service and thecommunity.The role includes carrying outactivities asdelegated bytheregistered nurse in a manner that issafe,ethicaland culturally responsive About the Team/Service/ Location ID Forensic Services has adult,youthand communityservices.Haumietiketikeis a regional intellectual disability secureforensic unit which has eleven beds. The Cottages have a total of eight bedsand arelocatednext toHaumietiketikewhich is ontheRatonga-Rua-o-Porirua campus in Porirua.Manawaiisthe national facility for adults with an intellectual disability and/or mentalillness who have conditions of such severity that they have been subject tolong-term hospital level care compromising their quality of life.Itcomprisesof six beds within Individualised Service Units situatedalongsideHaumietiketike.HikitiaTeWairuais the national intellectual disability secure forensic youth unit which hassix beds. HikitiaTeWairuais co-located with the Youth Acute Inpatient Mental Health Inpatient Unit(Rangatahi) and the National Secure Youth Forensic Unit in the Centre ofExcellence at Kenepuru Hospital.TheIntellectualDisability Secure Service provides secure (inpatient) care and rehabilitationservices for male and female adults and adolescents who have a diagnosedintellectual disability and have committed often serious offences. Our clientsare usually Care Recipients or Special Care Recipients under the IntellectualDisability (Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation) Act, 2003 who have beenconvicted or found unfit to stand trial. The maximum number of clientsinour inpatient services is 31people. The length of stay for each clientvaries, and in more recent years orders have been made for an average of twoyears.To ensure that our clients receive the best possible care andrehabilitation, theservicehas developed a Model of Care that drawson the strengths of our clients and each discipline within themultidisciplinary team. This framework incorporates the Good Lives Model ofoffender rehabilitation,acomprehensive risk assessment structure, aPositiveBehaviour Support approach to direct care, and a formal staff supervision andeducation programme. The ID Service is part of the broader MentalHealth,Addictionsand Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS),which spans the Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Capital, Coast District and includeslocal, regional, and national services. About you The service is staffedby a team of clinicians from medical, nursing, alliedhealthandsupport work backgrounds. We also have management and administrativestaff.Our serviceembraces diversity. Your skills and experience will ideally be: At least NZQAlevel 4 or higher certificate or equivalent qualification or willingness to work towards this qualification for the right candidate An interest in workingwith intellectual disability service users under the RIDSS Model of Care, which incorporates a Positive Behaviour Support framework. Ability to work underguidance and according to treatment plans and guidelines developed by the client's multidisciplinary care team Ability toworkin a cohesive manner andmake an effective unit/team contribution. Ability toworkalongside service users by way of active support with their dailyactivities Ability to communicateclearly and effectivelyinboth written andoralforms. Excellentinterpersonal and communication skills. Sensitivity to the needsoftheservice user,staffandthe public. Abilitytomaintainconfidentiality. Understanding of theneeds of other cultures.
