Operations Consultant - Global Payments

Behind the scenes, our Global Payments team plays a critical role in keeping money moving accurately and on time - managing inward and outward payments, same-day cleared payments, and wholesale settlements that support customers, businesses and banking partners. We're looking for an experienced Operations Consultant to join our Global Payments team on a permanent basis. This role is suited to someone who enjoys working through detailed payment and settlement activity, investigating exceptions, and helping ensure high-value and time-critical transactions are completed smoothly. In this role, you'll help manage the settlement and investigation of inward and outward payments, including SWIFT/AVP inward payments, outward international money transfers, manual payment requests, Same Day Cleared Payments and wholesale settlement activity. You'll work closely with internal teams and external counterparties to resolve payment queries, manage exceptions, assess risk and support accurate, timely outcomes. Key responsibilities include: Managing and investigating inward and outward payment activity, including escalations, exceptions and settlement-related queries Working with SWIFT/AVP messages, international money transfers, manual requests and payment frameworks to trace, analyse and resolve payment queries Supporting Same Day Cleared Payments and other time-critical transactions where accuracy, speed and judgement are essential Helping manage wholesale settlement activity, including processes such as Continuous Linked Settlement and Settlement Before Interchange Analysing information across multiple systems to identify root cause, manage risk and determine the right next steps Contributing to process improvement by identifying trends, risks and opportunities to make payment and settlement processes more effective This is a hands-on Global Payments role where accuracy, curiosity, pace and attention to detail are key - especially when supporting payments that are high-value, time-sensitive or operationally complex. You'll bring experience in payments, settlements or operational investigations and enjoy working through complex, detail-heavy tasks. Ideally, you'll have: Essential hands-on experience with SWIFT, ideally alongside international payments experience within a banking or financial services environment Experience in payments investigations, settlements, reconciliations or transaction investigations A naturally inquisitive mindset — you ask questions, follow payment flows, join the dots and dig into detail Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to assess risk and make sound decisions under time pressure Excellent attention to detail, numerical accuracy and confidence working with high-value transactions Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal The ability to manage competing priorities and work to time-critical payment deadlines Confidence learning and navigating multiple systems SWIFT experience is essential for this role. Experience with international payments, settlements, wholesale operations or high-volume banking operations will also be highly regarded.
