Lead a skilled regulatory team and make a positive impact on community wellbeing Provide expert alcohol licensing advice and oversee compliance and enforcement Meaningful leadership opportunity with great benefits and development options Lead a skilled regulatory team and make a positive impact on community wellbeing Provide expert alcohol licensing advice and oversee compliance and enforcement Meaningful leadership opportunity with great benefits and development options About The Role We're looking for an experienced regulatory professional to lead our Alcohol team and help promote and safeguard environmental health across Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai Lower Hutt. Reporting to the Environmental Health Manager, you'll lead a team of six responsible for alcohol licensing, inspections, monitoring and enforcement. You'll provide expert technical advice on the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act and oversee work programmes for new and renewed licences and certificates. You’ll Also Monitor licensed premises and ensure regulatory standards are met Lead responses to non-compliance, complaints and enforcement matters Prepare evidence and represent Council at hearings, tribunals and court proceedings Build effective relationships with businesses, the community, elected members and partner agencies, including New Zealand Police and Regional Public Health Support the delivery of other environmental health functions, including food verification and enforcement Develop team capability and champion customer-focused, consistent and continuously improving services This is an opportunity to combine your technical expertise and leadership skills in a role that directly supports the safety and wellbeing of our community. About You You’ll be a confident and supportive leader who can apply legislation fairly, make sound decisions and navigate complex or sensitive regulatory matters. You’ll Bring Relevant experience and qualifications in environmental or public health Sound knowledge of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act and other relevant legislation, including the Health Act, Food Act, Resource Management Act and Local Government Act Demonstrated leadership experience, ideally including people management Experience in regulatory compliance, inspections and enforcement Strong written communication and workload‑management skills The ability to build trusted relationships with customers, businesses, partner agencies and elected members A practical, professional and solutions‑focused approach A current driver licence Membership of a relevant professional institute would be an advantage.
