Job Description
About Us: Our client is seeking skilled Senior Design/ Project Engineer to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of industrial and marine projects, from initial concept design through to installation and commissioning. You’ll work alongside a great team, collaborating with clients and internal experts to bring practical and innovative solutions to life. What You’ll Be Doing: Developing detailed engineering designs for plant and structures, including steam and hot water boilers, pressure vessels, piping systems, heat exchangers, material handling systems, lifting equipment, and plant support structures. Using SolidWorks (or similar software) to create 3D models and fabrication drawings for production, ensuring clarity and accuracy. Performing engineering calculations to size components and systems correctly, including running simple FEA when required to verify designs. Preparing and releasing accurate workshop drawings for production, ensuring they meet requirements for accuracy and manufacturability. Working closely with senior engineers and other team members to refine and develop new designs. Engaging with workshop staff during production to provide feedback and resolve any issues. Preparing work packages and specifications for subcontracted design and fabrication work (including electrical and control systems). Visiting client sites to gather information, take measurements, and scope work to ensure accurate project planning. Building and maintaining strong client relationships, ensuring designs meet their needs and contributing to repeat business. Ensuring designs comply with Lyttelton Engineering’s quality assurance, health, safety, and environmental standards. What We’re Looking For: A tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Process Engineering or related discipline (BEng or equivalent). At least 3 years of relevant post-graduate experience in design engineering or project/ process engineering, ideally in an industrial or marine setting. Strong proficiency in SolidWorks or similar 3D modelling software. A solid understanding of engineering design principles for pressure vessels, heat transfer systems, and plant structures. Experience in designing process heat solutions (steam and hot water boilers, combustion systems, heat exchangers) is highly advantageous. Familiarity with instrumentation and control systems is a plus. A basic understanding of low-voltage electrical systems; high-voltage electrical systems knowledge is an advantage. Strong communication skills—able to engage effectively with internal teams, external clients, suppliers, and subcontractors. Ability to collaborate well within a team, managing priorities and deadlines to ensure successful project delivery. Why apply? Permanent, full-time role with a competitive salary and opportunities to develop your career. Work on a range of interesting, diverse projects in the industrial and marine sectors. Join a supportive, experienced team where your contributions are valued. You must be a New Zealand Citizen or Resident to apply for this role. #J-18808-Ljbffr
