The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is a part of the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) | Te Tira Tiaki, providing cyber security services to all New Zealanders. The role As a Senior Technical Consultant, you will act as a technical advisor safeguarding New Zealand’s vital telecommunications and national information systems. Operating within the NCSC Regulatory Unit, you will bridge the gap between complex engineering and legislative frameworks, ensuring that critical infrastructure providers meet their security and compliance mandates under national security laws. You will actively collaborate with multi-agency partners, provide strategic oversight during high-level procurement and network designs, and serve as a subject matter expert to defend the nation against sophisticated, state-sponsored cyber threats. Key Responsibilities: Evaluate systemic security hazards under space, telecommunications, and foreign investment legislation. Provide expert technical guidance regarding the engineering and architecture of communication systems. Foster strong collaborations with network providers and state authorities. Execute detailed peer reviews of complex technical proposals and national security evaluations. Identify and elevate emerging technology-borne network vulnerabilities or compliance gaps. Who we’re looking for: Experienced professional with a several years working within the New Zealand ICT or network security sector. Skilled communicator capable of translating highly technical networking concepts for non-technical leadership. Astute analyst holding a comprehensive understanding of state-sponsored espionage and advanced data communication vectors. Collaborative individual with practical experience managing multi-stakeholder engagements and parallel, high-urgency projects. Qualified specialist holding a tertiary IT qualification or professional credentials like CISSP/CISM desirable.
