Due to continued growth, we are seeking a qualified and experienced Electronics & Instrumentation Technician / Registered Electrician to join our maintenance team in New Plymouth. This role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse range of oil and gas field equipment, instrumentation systems, electronic controls, and mobile pressure pumping equipment, both in the workshop and at operational sites. The Role As an Electronics & Instrumentation Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical, electronic, and instrumentation systems used in oil and gas operations. You will work closely with both maintenance and operations teams to ensure equipment reliability, compliance, and safe operation while supporting field activities as required. Key Responsibilities Install, test, commission, and maintain electrical, electronic, and instrumentation systems. Perform preventative and breakdown maintenance on pressure pumping and support equipment. Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical, electronic, PLC, instrumentation, and control system faults. Conduct calibration and testing of electronic instruments, sensors, and control systems. Interpret schematics, drawings, technical manuals, and diagnostic information. Maintain data acquisition systems and associated instrumentation. Assist with commissioning of new equipment and system upgrades. Support operational teams during field activities and remote deployments when required. Ensure compliance with New Zealand electrical regulations, industry standards, and company HSEQ requirements. Complete maintenance documentation accurately using CMMS and other electronic systems. About You We are looking for a hands‑on, motivated professional who is safety-focused, solutions-oriented, and enjoys working in a fast‑paced operational environment. The successful applicant will possess: Qualifications Current New Zealand Registered Electrician practising licence. New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Instrumentation) Level 4 or equivalent Instrumentation and Electrical Technician qualification. Explosive Atmospheres (Ex) competency/training (EEHA, IECEx, CompEx, or equivalent). Relevant trade qualification in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Electrotechnology. Essential Experience & Skills Minimum 2 years' experience in a maintenance, instrumentation, electrical, or electronics technician role. Experience troubleshooting electrical and electronic systems. Knowledge of industrial instrumentation, sensors, transmitters, and control systems. Experience with calibration and testing of instrumentation equipment. Exposure to PLC systems and industrial automation. Understanding of engine control systems, preferably CAT J1939. Experience with data acquisition systems. Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic abilities. Good computer skills and experience using CMMS systems. Ability to work both independently and within a team. Desirable Previous oil & gas, energy, mining, or heavy industrial experience. Heavy Vehicle Licence or willingness to obtain. High Risk Work Licence or willingness to obtain.
