Job Description
Our purpose is to empower New Zealand’s energy future, enabling a net-zero carbon economy and a reliable, secure electricity system. Our context Few electricity organisations globally operate across grid ownership, power system operation, renewable integration, and HVDC transmission. At Transpower, these responsibilities come together in our role at the centre of New Zealand’s national electricity system. The scale and complexity of our work programme is expected to more than double in the next five years. To meet this challenge, we are evolving the way we work, strengthening capability, and positioning ourselves to deliver the infrastructure, planning, and system outcomes New Zealand will need for decades to come. Grid Delivery is responsible for the work that keeps the National Grid safe, reliable, resilient and ready for New Zealand’s changing electricity needs. The division brings together the operational, maintenance, programme delivery, planning, engineering and service provider capability required to turn grid strategy and investment decisions into coordinated national delivery. It works across regions, customers, service providers and internal partners to deliver safe field work, maintain asset performance, manage outages and operational risk, and improve how work is planned, prioritised and delivered across the grid. The National Services group provides the leadership, discipline and consistency required to deliver operations and maintenance safely, efficiently and in a way that supports network reliability, asset performance, customer outcomes and service excellence across Aotearoa. The opportunity - a new leadership role Based in your preferred location of Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch, lift operational performance, strengthen execution discipline and consistency, and drive improvements in planning, scheduling, productivity and service delivery outcomes across a nationally distributed operating environment. You’ll be accountable for ensuring national operations and maintenance services support asset performance, customer outcomes and network reliability. Working across Grid Delivery, Operations, Programme Delivery, Integrated Planning, Customer and Commercial, Health and Safety, contracted service providers and customers, you will strengthen how national service delivery is planned, prioritised, coordinated and performed. You will lead Regional Services Managers, Works Scheduling and Delivery specialists, with accountability for overseeing the operational excellence programme, ensuring the maintenance programme is delivered safely and effectively, and shaping service provider relationships and performance. Setting clear expectations, you’ll build capability through leaders and create the operating discipline required to improve service quality, productivity, delivery throughput, customer experience and operational performance. You will: Lead national operations and maintenance services that support asset performance, customer outcomes, network reliability and service excellence. Oversee maintenance delivery and operational excellence initiatives that lift safety, service quality, productivity and performance. Provide visible leadership for health, safety, wellbeing, operational risk, resilience, outages and significant network events. Strengthen the National Services operating model by clarifying accountabilities, interfaces, decision rights and planning practices across the delivery system. Lead service provider relationships and performance while improving delivery throughput, scheduling effectiveness and field productivity across the national work programme. Your leadership profile You’ll bring senior leadership experience across complex operational, maintenance, service delivery, field-based, infrastructure, utility or critical service environments. Commercially astute and pragmatic, you will be confident leading through leaders, improving performance, operating at pace, and building alignment across geographically dispersed teams and external delivery partners. In your CV we’ll be looking for evidence of: Executive or senior leadership accountability across operational, maintenance, service delivery, field-based, infrastructure, utility or critical service functions. Success leading people managers and multiple operational teams, including building capability, strengthening accountability and improving performance. Experience improving service delivery models, performance frameworks, operational governance, work scheduling, throughput, productivity or continuous improvement practices. Commercial judgement and supplier leadership, including managing high-value service delivery contracts or complex partner relationships while balancing safety, reliability, customer, operational, risk and cost objectives. Exceptional communication skills and ability to influence across internal teams, customers, service providers, infrastructure partners, regulators, iwi or community stakeholders, supported by relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent senior professional experience.
