Job Description

At Westland Milk Products, our milk tanker fleet plays a critical role in collecting milk from farms across the South Island and delivering it safely to our manufacturing sites. We're looking for an experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to join our Milk Collection Fleet Maintenance team in Hokitika and help keep this essential operation moving. Reporting to the Fleet Maintenance Manager , you'll work alongside a skilled team of mechanics, maintaining a fleet of milk tankers and associated transport equipment. This is a hands‑on role where your technical expertise will directly contribute to the reliability, safety, and efficiency of one of New Zealand's most important primary industries. What you'll be doing As part of our Fleet Maintenance team, you'll be responsible for: Carrying out servicing, repairs and preventative maintenance on heavy vehicles and associated equipment. Diagnosing faults and responding promptly to defects, breakdowns and call‑outs. Maintaining fleet availability by identifying trends in vehicle performance and recommending improvements. Ensuring all vehicles meet NZTA requirements and comply with relevant legislation, regulations and company standards. Maintaining accurate service, repair and maintenance records. Building strong working relationships with tanker drivers and internal stakeholders. Supporting safe work practices and contributing to a positive, high-performing workshop culture. About you We're looking for a practical, reliable and self‑motivated mechanic who takes pride in delivering quality workmanship and keeping equipment operating at its best. Ideally, you'll bring: A National Certificate in Automotive Heavy Engineering or equivalent qualification. Experience servicing and repairing heavy transport fleets and associated equipment. Experience using modern diagnostic and fault‑finding equipment. Strong communication and relationship‑building skills. Good computer literacy and documentation skills. Excellent time management and organisational abilities. A high attention to detail and commitment to safety. A Class 5 licence and F endorsement (preferred but not essential). What's on offer?
