Our vision: Nature is thriving in Aotearoa | Te Oranga o te Ao Tūroa Mō te tūranga | About the role Bring your financial accounting expertise to a role where your work helps support the protection of Aotearoa's unique environment. You'll play a key role in ensuring the integrity of DOC's financial information while working across a diverse portfolio that includes assets, Crown land, taxation and financial reporting. As Financial Accountant, you'll provide specialist financial accounting services across a range of operational and strategic areas. You'll partner with colleagues across the organisation, including Conservancies, Treaty Negotiations, Management Accounting, and external auditors, providing technical advice, improving financial processes and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and legislative requirements. Key responsibilities Deliver financial accounting services across fixed assets, Crown land, taxation, banking, visitor booking systems, and other operational accounting areas Lead and support month-end and year-end financial reporting, reconciliations, annual asset revaluations, financial statements, and audit activities Provide trusted technical accounting advice on financial reporting, asset capitalisation, taxation, and Crown land transactions Drive continuous improvement by enhancing financial systems, processes, policies, and controls to strengthen compliance and efficiency Contribute to a range of financial accounting projects, supporting system enhancements, reconciliations, and business improvement initiatives. Skills and experience A tertiary qualification in Accounting. Demonstrated experience in financial accounting, financial reporting, asset accounting, taxation and reconciliations, ideally within the Public Service Financial auditing skills, ideally experience with Department and Crown fixed assets Experience using large financial systems (ideally SAP) and strong Microsoft Excel skills. Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships across a wide range of stakeholders. Strong analytical skills and a keen eye for detail, with a focus on accuracy and continuous improvement. Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work to deadlines A collaborative approach, curiosity to learn, and a commitment to supporting DOC's purpose through excellent financial stewardship.
