Job Description

Our purpose is to empower New Zealand’s energy future, enabling a net-zero carbon economy and a reliable, secure electricity system. Our context We connect New Zealanders to our highly renewable electricity system, enable the energy transition, and ensure a safe, resilient and reliable grid. We invest in, operate, and maintain approximately $5 billion of regulated electricity transmission infrastructure and associated support systems and facilities. The scale and complexity of our work programme is expected to more than double in the next five years. To meet this challenge, we are evolving how we work, strengthening capability and positioning ourselves to deliver the infrastructure, planning and system outcomes New Zealand will need for decades to come. Grid Development is the division that shapes the future of New Zealand’s transmission network By bringing together network strategy, integrated planning, investment management, project engineering, technical capability and governance, we ensure the National Grid continues to meet customer, system and long-term energy needs. Integrated Planning combines asset, system, customer, delivery, commercial, operational and regulatory inputs together into clear whole of system and regional development plans. The team develops frameworks, decision-making processes and planning products that provide a transparent, integrated view of future network investment needs across the Grid. The opportunity — strengthen asset planning Lead the Asset Planning group and be accountable for the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of Transpower’s Asset Management Plan and related planning outputs. You’ll work in partnership across the integrated planning system to provide the discipline, frameworks and evidence base that support investment decisions and regulatory submissions. Working across Transpower and with external stakeholders, you’ll ensure asset planning inputs are credible, integrated and defensible. You’ll translate complex asset issues into clear investment problems, mature planning outputs and prioritised recommendations that help Transpower direct effort and investment where it will create the most value. You’ll lead across: Asset Management Plan and maturity: owning and improving Transpower’s Asset Management Plan, asset planning outputs, maturity frameworks and planning practices to ensure our Asset Management Plan is incorporated into the investment decision-making and delivery process. Regulatory planning and submissions: leading robust, transparent and evidence-based asset planning inputs to regulatory submissions and related planning products. Problem definition and investment readiness: defining asset-related problems, risks, constraints and opportunities so they can support value-based investment and progress through investment governance. Integrated planning contribution: bringing the asset planning perspective into Transpower’s planning system, governance, decision-making frameworks and planning outputs. Leadership, capability and improvement: leading a professional team, building capability, managing budgets and performance, and fostering a collaborative, inclusive culture. Your leadership profile You’ll bring leadership experience, ideally including leadership of managers, technical specialists or professional teams, and depth in asset management, asset planning, investment planning or integrated planning within a complex infrastructure or asset-intensive environment. You’ll bring sound judgement, systems thinking and the ability to turn ambiguity into clear choices and aligned action. Confident working with senior stakeholders, you’ll navigate trade-offs where risk, cost, customer, regulatory and delivery outcomes are in tension. You’ll lead people through change and build clarity, inclusion, accountability and continuous improvement. In your CV we’ll be looking for evidence of: Senior leadership in asset management, asset planning, investment planning, integrated planning or a comparable infrastructure function, including leading technical or professional teams. Experience developing or improving asset management plans, maturity frameworks, integrated planning methodologies or practices. Strong understanding of asset lifecycle management, risk and value-based decision-making, whole-of-life investment principles and investment governance. Experience contributing to regulatory, investment or business planning submissions, including robust analysis, transparent assumptions and evidence-based recommendations. The ability to define complex asset or network investment problems and translate them into clear, actionable planning outputs. Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, ideally with exposure to electricity transmission, distribution, regulated infrastructure or other asset-intensive environments. Join us at Transpower At Transpower, our people are connected by purpose. We bring diverse perspectives together to solve complex challenges, make timely decisions and deliver work that matters for generations. We offer intellectually stimulating work, ongoing learning, and a range of health, wellbeing and insurance benefits.
