Job Description
ASSOCIATE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER - CONSIDERING ACROSS THE DITCH? Take Your Career to Sydney, Australia Relocation support available NZ CPEng essential Above-market remuneration Major leadership opportunity within a growing seven-office engineering group You’ve Established Your Career in New Zealand. What could the next step look like Across the Ditch? Perhaps it isn't simply another Senior Structural Engineer position. This is an opportunity for an established New Zealand CPEng Structural Engineer to relocate to Sydney and move into a role with considerably greater influence over projects, engineers, clients and the future direction of a growing structural engineering business. You'll remain technically involved, but you won't be employed as another production engineer spending every day producing calculations. The business already has capable engineers doing that. They need somebody who can lead them. The Opportunity We're seeking a Senior / Associate-level Structural Engineer with approximately 8-15 years' experience who is ready to take greater responsibility for the complete delivery of structural projects. You'll work across commercial and residential buildings, warehouses, distribution centres, industrial developments and bespoke residential projects, with the business increasingly moving into larger and more complex mid-rise structures. Current projects regularly include three and four-storey buildings, with increasing involvement in projects around eight storeys and above. Your experience should therefore extend beyond houses and smaller structures. You'll ideally have a strong understanding of reinforced concrete and structural steel, together with exposure to precast concrete, tilt-up construction and a variety of structural systems. Move Beyond Producing the Design At this level, your value isn't measured by how many calculations you can personally produce. It's measured by your ability to ensure the whole project is engineered and delivered properly. You'll take responsibility for: Leading structural projects from commencement through to completion Coordinating and allocating work across the engineering team Mentoring engineers typically in the 3–6 year experience range Reviewing calculations, drawings and structural solutions Maintaining QA and technical standards Identifying design and delivery problems before they become project problems Providing technical guidance and making confident engineering decisions Managing programmes, scope and project delivery Working directly with architects, builders, developers and other consultants Leading client and project meetings Developing strong ongoing client relationships Assisting with fee proposals, variations and commercial project decisions They are looking for somebody who can become a combination of technical leader, project leader, mentor and trusted client advisor. A Bigger Platform This is potentially where the opportunity becomes considerably more interesting. You're not simply joining one structural team in Sydney. The wider engineering group currently operates across seven offices and continues to grow. The successful person will have the opportunity to become an important structural leader across that wider group, helping influence technical capability, engineering standards, people development and the continued growth of the structural business. As the group expands, so can your responsibilities. For somebody with longer-term leadership ambitions, this provides a substantially bigger career platform than simply becoming another Associate within an established hierarchy. Moving From New Zealand? The company understands that relocating countries is a significant decision and will support the right person through that transition. You must already hold New Zealand CPEng, but you are not expected to arrive with every Australian professional registration already completed. The business will actively support you in obtaining the appropriate Australian registrations and transitioning your established New Zealand structural engineering career into the Australian consulting market. Relocation assistance is also available for the successful candidate where required. Why Would You Consider It? Because you've already proven yourself technically. The next stage of your career can be about influence. Influence over projects. Influence over younger engineers. Influence with clients. And influence over how a growing structural engineering business develops. The company is prepared to offer above-market remuneration to attract the right person because they aren't looking for the cheapest Senior Engineer available. They're looking for an experienced CPEng Structural Engineer who can genuinely take responsibility away from senior management and become an important part of the future leadership of the group. If you're established in Christchurch or elsewhere in New Zealand and have ever considered taking your career to Australia, this is an opportunity worth having a confidential conversation about before deciding whether the move is right for you. Interested? All enquiries are strictly confidential. This opportunity is specifically suited to New Zealand CPEng Structural Engineers with established local consultancy experience. Australian registration support and relocation assistance are available for the successful candidate. #J-18808-Ljbffr
