Mechanic Team Leader – Queenstown Permanent, full time. About the role: We’re looking for a Mechanic Team Leader to take charge of our frontline workshop operations, based in Queenstown. This is a hands‑on leadership role where you’ll guide a team of mechanics, drive productivity, and ensure every vehicle leaves the workshop performing at its best. Your mission: exceed customer expectations while hitting quality, efficiency, and strategic targets. This position is full-time with guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week. Remuneration will be commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience, and will fall within the range of $34 to $45 per hour. What we’re looking for: We’re seeking someone who brings both technical expertise and leadership skills to the table: A recognised New Zealand trade qualification (Light or Heavy Automotive Engineering Level 4 or international equivalent). At least a restricted driver’s licence. 3 to 5 years of automotive industry experience is preferred. Previous team leader or supervisory experience in busy workshop environments is essential. Strong knowledge of automotive mechanics, diagnostics, and workshop systems. Proven ability to train, mentor, and motivate a diverse team. Commitment to health & safety standards and compliance. Reliable under pressure, with excellent communication and organisational skills. What you’ll do: As Mechanic Team Leader, you’ll: Lead daily workshop operations, organising workflow and fostering a positive team environment. Diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles to thl standards. Decide on repair vs. replacement based on inspections. Confirm repairs through test drives, adjustments, and quality checks. Ensure compliance with legal, safety, and brand requirements. Support recruitment, rostering, and performance management. Train and guide mechanics, resolving operational challenges. Use Microsoft Asset Manager to track workflows, parts, and labour. Champion health and safety practices across the workshop. At thl, we don’t just fix vehicles — we create unforgettable journeys.
