The Analytics & Research in Government (ARG) Internship Programme gives you the chance to turn your curiosity into impact. For 12 weeks, you’ll be placed in a government agency, working on real data with real experts - and getting paid for it. You’ll get the opportunity to: Apply your skills to meaningful, real-world projects Learn from some of Aotearoa’s top analysts and researchers Build confidence, capability and connections Gain insight into how government decisions are made You’ll be contributing to projects that impact policy, funding and services for communities across the motu. Sample Projects Our Interns Have Worked On Writing evidence briefs to support kaupapa Māori policies that improve whānau wellbeing. Building an R Shiny app to visualise environmental data by iwi rohe. Analysing data on children in care to understand barriers to whānau contact. Wherever you're placed, you’ll be working on something real, relevant and rewarding. The internship 12 week internship (Nov–Feb) Based in Wellington (you’ll need to cover your own travel/accommodation if from out of town) Includes centralised cohort professional development We’ll match you to a project with a participating government agency, based on your background, interests and skills. Who We’re Looking For Typically, you’ll be studying data science, economics, social sciences, health, public policy - or something completely different. What matters most is that you’re: Curious and motivated A strong communicator and team player Interested in how data can help government serve communities Open to learning and growing Programming skills are a bonus, not a requirement.
