Mobile Service Technician - Bay of Plenty Mobile Hydraulic Hose Technician – Field Service Permanent, full-time | Mount Maunganui Pirtek Bay of Plenty is looking for an experienced, practical technician to join our Mount Maunganui team. You’ll respond to breakdowns, solve problems on-site and work across a wide range of machinery and industries. You’ll be trusted to organise your workload and make practical decisions in the field, with support from our workshop team whenever you need it. Once you are ready to manage service calls independently, you’ll be allocated a service vehicle with fuel provided for work and travel between home and work. What you can expect $35–$45 per hour, based on your relevant skills and experience Paid overtime and additional earnings from after-hours call-outs Once you’re trained and ready to manage service calls independently, you’ll be provided with an equipped service vehicle The freedom to organise and prioritise your daily workload Varied work across different sites, machinery and industries A small local team where your contribution is recognised Practical support when a job requires an extra set of hands The opportunity to build specialist hydraulic and fluid-transfer expertise The backing of the established Pirtek brand and wider national network This is a permanent, full-time position with at least 40 guaranteed hours per week. Normal hours are Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 5.00pm. Once competent and ready, you’ll participate in our on-call roster one week in every three. Our service area Our mobile service territory covers the wider Tauranga area. We support customers across construction, agriculture, transport, marine, manufacturing and industrial sectors. Our work includes hydraulic hose replacement, hydraulic cylinder repairs, emergency breakdown repairs, preventative maintenance and mobile hydraulic servicing. Repairs are completed both on-site and in our Mount Maunganui workshop. What you’ll be doing You will: Respond to breakdowns and mobile service requests Manufacture, replace and install hydraulic hoses Diagnose hydraulic and mechanical faults Repair and replace hoses, fittings and hydraulic components Assist with hydraulic cylinder repairs and related workshop work Complete planned servicing and preventative maintenance Manage and prioritise your daily service calls Provide practical advice and professional service to customers Maintain your service vehicle, tools and stock Complete accurate job records Support the workshop team when required Who we’re looking for Previous hydraulic hose experience is strongly preferred. We’re also interested in hearing from experienced diesel mechanics, heavy‑equipment technicians, agricultural mechanics, fitters and field‑service technicians who have worked with machinery and hydraulic systems. You will need: At least two years’ relevant hands‑on mechanical, hydraulic or field‑service experience Experience repairing, servicing or maintaining machinery Strong fault‑finding and practical problem‑solving skills The ability to learn new products, systems and processes quickly Confidence using tools and measuring equipment accurately Sound judgement and the confidence to make practical decisions on‑site Good communication and customer‑service skills Proven reliability and pride in your workmanship The ability to work independently while contributing to a small team Flexibility to participate in paid after‑hours call‑outs A full New Zealand driver’s licence The physical capability to perform the role safely A trade qualification is useful, but relevant field experience, hydraulic knowledge and practical capability are what matter most. This role would particularly suit someone with a strong mechanical foundation who is ready to apply those skills in a specialised mobile hydraulic service position.
