Our client is seeking an accomplished executive to lead its Legal, Risk & Compliance function. This newly created pivotal leadership role is responsible for providing strategic legal advice while leading enterprise risk, compliance, internal audit and policy governance across a large, complex and values-led organisation. Working closely with the Executive Leadership Team and governance bodies, you will provide trusted strategic counsel on legal, regulatory and organisational matters. Leading a team of 6 direct reports, you will oversee litigation, contract management, enterprise risk, compliance programmes, governance initiatives and policy development while fostering a culture of integrity, accountability and sound decision‑making across the organisation. This is far more than a traditional General Counsel appointment. It is an outstanding opportunity to influence organisational strategy, lead a broad executive portfolio and make a meaningful contribution within an organisation driven by purpose and long-term impact. . What we're looking for A senior lawyer with at least 10 years PQE, significant senior legal leadership experience and a current New Zealand legal practising certificate. Sound capability across legal advisory, governance, enterprise risk and regulatory compliance. Experience leading legal teams and overseeing litigation, complex commercial matters and organisational risk frameworks. The ability to provide trusted strategic advice to Boards, Executive Leadership Teams and senior stakeholders. Outstanding leadership, communication and relationship-building skills. Experience operating within large, complex or highly regulated organisations. An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga Māori and kaupapa Māori, or a genuine commitment to continuing your learning and capability in this area.
