Lead a high-impact monitoring function that strengthens Crown entity and system performance Turn strategic stewardship intent into practical, risk-based monitoring that supports better decisions Permanent | Wellington based Position |4.8 weeks annual leave Midpoint of $167,029 dependent on your professional skills and experience Ko tōu ake mahi - What you’ll do This is a pivotal leadership role at the centre of the Ministry’s stewardship of Crown entities and overall health system performance. As Manager, System and Entity Monitoring, you’ll lead a capable team to deliver disciplined, risk-based monitoring that spots issues early, supports confident escalation and gives senior leaders the clear, decision-ready insight they need. Working alongside the Director and peer managers, you’ll help turn strategic stewardship intent into strong monitoring practice that makes a visible difference across the health system. You will Lead the delivery of system and entity monitoring, overseeing the monitoring of Crown entities (excluding Health NZ) and system-level performance Ensure work programmes are planned, prioritised and delivered. Embed a disciplined, risk-based monitoring approach by ensuring monitoring plans, judgements and escalation pathways are consistent, proportionate, well-documented and easy to act on. Bring together data, qualitative intelligence and operational context to provide a coherent view of performance across financial, workforce, infrastructure and digital monitoring domains. Identify and manage emerging risks by ensuring performance, governance and system risks are surfaced early, analysed clearly and escalated appropriately, with clear oversight of follow-up actions, assurance activity and de-escalation. Lead people and develop a high-performing monitoring team, supporting Principals and Senior Advisers on complex work, lifting monitoring maturity and modelling strong leadership, equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations. Ko ngā pūkenga ōu - What you’ll bring Proven people leadership experience, with a track record of building high performing teams and supporting staff growth and development Strong monitoring and assurance practice, with excellent professional judgement and the confidence to advise on complex, sensitive or fast-moving issues. Highly developed ability to integrate performance insights and build a holistic understanding of entity and system performance. Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgement under pressure on entity-level and system-level risks. Proven experience providing high-quality advice and assurance to senior leaders and Ministers on complex or sensitive matters. Demonstrated experience leading through complexity and change, modelling resilience, adaptability and a strong focus on delivery. Excellent influence and relationship-management skills, with the credibility to work across monitoring domains and with external providers.
