Job Description

An incredible NZ opportunity for a C# specialist to lead backend modernisation, linking live data pipelines with advanced math models! Why You’d Like It If you are a senior engineer who thrives on autonomy, loves the intersection of high-performance backend code and data science, and hates being micromanaged, this is the one. You will step into a role where you genuinely own the technical direction, moving a sophisticated trading environment toward a modern, serverless architecture. Plus, with a hybrid setup out of Downtown Auckland and possibly full remote flexibility (in the near future), you can work exactly how you work best. The Story As global energy markets become faster and more data-reliant, this team is scaling up to stay ahead of the curve. They are moving away from legacy infrastructure and leaning heavily into cutting-edge cloud automation, serverless tech, and robust data pipelines. To make this shift seamless, they need a seasoned engineer who can bridge the gap between heavy C#.net engineering and complex quantitative models, with proven hands‑on expertise building and managing AWS cloud infrastructure. Company Profile This boutique APAC trading and tech firm operates at the absolute forefront of the wholesale energy sector. They build and run the high-volume data engines and forecasting platforms that drive real‑time trading decisions. It is a flat, highly collaborative team of data scientists and infrastructure specialists who prize agility over corporate bureaucracy, which is why they run a streamlined AWS environment using Terraform and deliberately bypass complex frameworks like Kubernetes in favour of clean, serverless architectures. Your Role You will take ownership of the core data processing pipelines and quantitative execution platforms that power live wholesale market operations. Bridge the Tech Stack: Build and scale low‑latency Web APIs and background workers in C#.net , ensuring seamless communication with quantitative models written in R and Python. Modernise the Cloud: Champion the transition to serverless cloud solutions using AWS (Lambda, ECS, Batch) , while standardising and provisioning all infrastructure via Terraform (both non‑negotiable core skills for this role). Optimise Data Pipelines: Design and manage robust SQL backends and ETL pipelines to ingest and structure massive external streaming datasets like weather matrices. Drive Automation & Observability: Prototype next‑generation AI and event‑driven workflows using N8N, while monitoring ecosystem health and performance using DataDog. Benefits True Autonomy: The freedom to define how your work looks without micromanagement. Flexible Working: Work from a modern downtown Auckland office with the potential in the future to go fully remote. Modern Tech Stack: Work with AWS serverless architectures, Docker, and IaC (Terraform) without unnecessary enterprise bloat. Competitive Package: A strong salary plus incredible bonus package. Your Fit You are a seasoned .net Developer who is comfortable engineering heavy backend systems and managing cloud infrastructure. Hands‑on commercial experience with AWS and Terraform is strictly essential for this position (experience with other cloud providers like Azure will not fit the requirements for this role). You have strong SQL skills and solid experience provisioning AWS environments. Ideally, you have worked alongside data scientists, or you have a natural curiosity for financial markets, algorithmic trading, or data‑heavy automation. Key Requirements Must-Have: Strong commercial C#.net development experience. Must-Have: Hands‑on commercial AWS cloud experience ( AWS Lambda, ECS, Batch ). Must-Have: Proven infrastructure as code (IaC) skills using Terraform . Bonus: Background working alongside Data Science, Quantitative, or Analytics teams. #J-18808-Ljbffr
