About the Role The Software team develops and maintains systems to support our mission, including critical control systems, scientific instrumentation and modelling, and internal business tools. The candidate will join the Software team to build and develop internal software tools. Working with the latest in front-end technologies, server-side development, machine learning techniques, and systems programming, the candidate will be responsible for gathering requirements, designing, developing, testing, and deploying software. This is a broad project that can span various aspects of software engineering (depending on the candidate) including: Front end development of user-friendly interfaces Backend development to implement business logic and work with databases Pioneering ML-based solutions to fusion-specific challenges Systems programming to aid the development of human‑machine‑interfaces This internship provides the opportunity to take a lead on the implementation of projects with the support of the wider software team through pair coding sessions, code review, and user testing. Key Responsibilities Work both independently and collaboratively to design, develop, test, and deploy full-stack applications Work with cross-disciplinary teams to gather requirements What We're Looking For Full-stack development and/or AI/ML experience with languages and tools such as TypeScript, Rust, Python, PLC programming, React, pytorch, SQL, UI/UX design, data visualisation, HTML, CSS, REST, git. Ability to work through and solve highly multidisciplinary engineering problems. Ability to take initiative, work independently and as part of a team. Great team member with clear communication and collaboration skills. Innate desire to learn, innovate, and critique ideas including one's own. Must have completed 3rd or 4th year of an undergraduate degree in Software Engineering, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
