Losing a loved one is one of life's most difficult experiences. As a Cemeteries Support Officer, you'll play an important role in helping people navigate this time with care, professionalism and empathy. Working closely with funeral directors, members of the public and our Sextons, you'll guide customers through the cemeteries process and provide support when it matters most. About the role | Ko te mahi nei This is a varied and rewarding position where no two days are the same. You'll be responsible for managing a wide range of cemetery-related enquiries and administrative processes across our network of 27 cemeteries. In this role, you'll: Coordinate and process interment (burial) requests Manage applications for plot purchases Respond to genealogy and cemetery-related enquiries Provide information and support to funeral directors and members of the public Maintain accurate records and documentation Manage enquiries received through our busy inbox Work collaboratively across teams to deliver quality customer outcomes While cemeteries support will be your primary focus, you'll also provide assistance across the wider Business Support team as required. This role requires a unique combination of empathy, resilience and attention to detail. You'll be comfortable supporting people who may be experiencing grief or distress, while remaining organised and focused on delivering excellent service. To be successful, you'll bring: Strong administrative and record-keeping skills Excellent communication and customer service abilities A calm, professional and compassionate approach The ability to manage sensitive situations with confidence and maturity Strong organisational skills and attention to detail Flexibility and a willingness to support the wider team when needed Your background may come from caregiving, social work, emergency services, customer service or administration. Most importantly, you'll have a genuine desire to help people and make a positive impact during some of life's most significant moments. Hours of work - Two days per week between Monday to Friday, with hours worked between 8:00am–5:00pm, participation in a rostered on-call service for weekends and public holidays. Days of work will be discussed with the preferred candidate. Position – Fixed-term for 18-months, part-time. Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street Salary - The hourly rate for this position goes from $32.52-$36.13 per hour. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
