Mō te tīma | About the team The Privacy team supports Oranga Tamariki to protect people and use information safely, respectfully, and lawfully. We work with deeply personal and sensitive information and play an important role in helping the organisation balance privacy protection with the safe and appropriate use of information to achieve positive outcomes for tamariki, rangatahi, whānau and communities. As part of Legal Services within System Leadership, the team provides expert advice and leadership on privacy, information sharing, and information management practices. We support the organisation to strengthen privacy capability, manage risk, and build a mature, people-centred approach to information governance. Mō te tūnga | About the role We are looking for an experienced privacy professional to join our team as Lead Advisor, Privacy. This is a senior specialist position where you will provide technical leadership and trusted advice across a broad range of privacy, information sharing and information management matters. Working across the organisation, you will help strengthen privacy capability, support sound decision-making, and ensure privacy obligations are embedded into everyday business practices. Key responsibilities include: Leading the development and continuous improvement of privacy frameworks, policies, guidance, tools and assurance activities. Providing expert advice on complex, sensitive and high-profile privacy matters, including information sharing arrangements and emerging technologies. Undertaking Privacy Impact Assessments and supporting the identification, management and treatment of privacy risks. Analysing privacy incidents, complaints and emerging issues to identify trends, lessons learned and opportunities for improvement. Building organisational capability through training, guidance, coaching and technical leadership. Partnering with internal and external stakeholders to promote safe, effective and trusted information practices. This is an opportunity to influence organisational privacy maturity and contribute to better outcomes for tamariki and rangatahi across Aotearoa New Zealand. Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring To be successful in this role, you will bring: Significant experience in privacy, information sharing, risk management, assurance and/or information governance. Strong knowledge of privacy legislation and relevant public sector information management frameworks. Experience developing and implementing policies, frameworks, guidance and tools that improve organisational practice. The ability to provide practical, risk-based advice on complex and sensitive issues. Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess information and identify meaningful insights. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts in clear, accessible language. Proven experience building effective relationships and influencing stakeholders across a large and complex organisation. An understanding of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, and the privacy and governance considerations associated with their use. An appreciation of te ao Māori, tikanga Māori and culturally responsive ways of working.
