Mō te tūnga | About the role Our Health and Safety Advisor, based at Trentham Military Camp, is directly responsible to the Deputy Director Health & Safety (Army) for providing technical support, guidance, and advice across all health and safety matters within the region covering Wellington and surrounding lower North Island locations. Duties for this role will include: Leading and supporting the implementation of the NZDF Safety Management System (SMS) and Army Health and Safety Assurance Programme (AHSAP). Providing occupational and operational health and safety advice to Commanders, managers, Unit Health and Safety Coordinators (UHSC's), personnel, and contractors. Assisting units to identify hazards and manage risks, including supporting development of risk assessments. Conducting inspections, monitoring activities and workplace assessments. Managing safety reporting and incident investigations. Supporting internal and external audits and assurance activities. Providing advice and guidance on hazardous substances compliance. Delivering and coordinating safety education and training. Coordinating and monitoring contractor safety compliance. Supporting emergency response and safety culture initiatives. The role is based at Trentham Military Camp however you may be required to attend other NZ camps and bases. Due to the nature of this role, there is very limited ability to work remotely. The salary for this role ranges from $96,911 to $107,559, inclusive of a 4% superannuation contribution. Appointments within this range are based on skills and experience. Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience This role requires an experienced Health and Safety Advisor with a tertiary-level Health and Safety qualification (or equivalent), strong practical expertise, and a proven ability to operate effectively within a structured, continually improving health and safety environment. As the successful candidate, you will also exhibit the following qualities: A strong understanding of NewZealand health and safety legislation, safety management systems, and related areas including safety management practices and the management of hazardous substances. Proven experience in Safety Risk Management, audit, and accident/incident investigation. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate confidently and professionally with a wide range of people and across all levels. Demonstrated computer literacy particularly with Microsoft Office. You need to have a Class1 Full Driver's Licence.
