About the Role We are excited to be expanding the Southern region Cardiology Service. We are looking to add to the existing team with 2 non-invasive / imaging cardiologist to be nominally based at Southland Hospital, Invercargill. This is to help with expanding the cardiac diagnostic services at this site and across the district. Candidates would have an interest in Echocardiography and / or Cardiac CT and / or Cardiac MRI. There will be opportunities for occasional work in Central Otago and Dunedin. There is no general medical commitment with this role but on call for cardiology for the region would be considered, if of interest. The appointee is expected to: Conduct face-to-face patient clinics, providing comprehensive assessments and management plans for a range of cardiac conditions. This would be in conjunction with Dunedin based cardiologists who provide visiting clinics to Southland. Participate in diagnostic imaging at Southland Hospital and across the region including all aspects of echocardiography and Cardiac CT or Cardiac MRI if possible. This would be as part of a team approach to imaging across the region. Collaborate with general medicine teams in managing complex cardiac cases including providing an in-hospital consult service. Collaborate with Nurse Specialists in managing cardiac long-term conditions such as heart failure. We have strong links with the Dunedin School of Medicine and the University of Otago. The echo department for Southern has EACVI accreditation, one of the only echo departments outside of Europe with this accolade. There are two Advanced Trainees in Cardiology in the department, and it is anticipated they will spend time in Southland as part of their training. Southland Hospital is situated in Invercargill. It is in an area out outstanding natural beauty. There are a large range of sporting, indoor and outdoor facilities in Invercargill including biking, running, rugby swimming and soccer. Queenstown and Te Anau plus Fjordland National Park are within 2 hours drive of the city. Invercargill is a great city with affordable housing and good schools. The airport has daily flights to Christchurch and Auckland. About You Appointed specialists will possess the FRACP or an equivalent qualification allowing a vocational registration with the NZ Medical Council. Salary range This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between the Step 1 ($198,386) and Step 15 ($282,645) per annum pro rata).
