Job Description

To facilitate the growth of our programmes Massey University's - Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa - School of Sport, Exercise and Nutrition is seeking an innovative and engaged Lecturer/Senior Lecturer with expertise in Motor Learning and Control. The School (ranked in the top 150 in the world) is one of New Zealand's most innovative, research and practice-led academic groups encompassing exercise science; sport development, physical education; and human nutrition and dietetics. The School delivers excellence in research, teaching and professional practice and this multi-disciplinary approach enables us to be a key influencer on human health and physical development throughout the lifecycle. To further its pursuit of excellence the School is working towards ESSA accreditation for its Exercise Science specialization and seeks applicants that can support this exciting development. The position is a permanent ongoing role, 1.0FTE (nominally 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday) based on our Manawatu (Palmerston North) campus and commences in January 2027. Te whiwhinga mahi - The opportunity Teaching and learning Contribute to the teaching and assessment of courses within the Bachelor of Sport and Exercise. Support the development of the ESSA Accredited Exercise Scientist pathway. Cultural safety Strengthen Sport and Exercise education and practice by including Te Ao Māori, mātauranga Māori, tikanga, and cultural safety within courses and programmes. Research Contribute to successful grant applications and a vibrant research culture. Supervise postgraduate research activity. Lecturer salary range and Senior Lecturer salary range Lecturer salary range NZD $86,113 - $109,901 (1 FTE) Senior Lecturer salary range NZD $107,916 - $152,711 (1 FTE) Ko koe tēnei - About you A PhD or equivalent in Sport and Exercise or a related field An accredited Exercise Scientist (ESSA or similar) Experience in tertiary-level teaching, curriculum development, and blended teaching approaches including online technologies Publications in peer-reviewed international journals in sport and exercise and/or related fields Excellent communication within inter-disciplinary teams Demonstrated engagement to form relationships with Sport and Exercise leaders and key external stakeholders (including Iwi partners) Ability to lead and contribute to research projects using a range of methodologies Demonstrated ability to supervise Higher Degree Research students (Masters and PhD) Why Massey University - Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa?
