Job Description This is arare opportunity to join our Environment team atamanagement level. With along mine-life we continue to grow production at the existing mine whilst also developing the new mine atWharekirauponga as part of the Waihi NorthProject. This role is responsible for leading environmental management across the Waihi Operation, including environmental compliance, monitoring, rehabilitation, assurance, approvals and continuous improvement programmes. The role provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure environmental risks are effectively managed, regulatory and consent obligations are met, and environmental considerations are integrated into operational planning. The position also leads the operational Environment Team and maintains key relationships with regulators, iwi, consultants and other stakeholders to support OceanaGold’s business objectives and commitment to responsible mining. Key tasks &responsibilities: Lead the development, implementation and continual improvement of environmental management systems, programmes and controls to ensure compliance with regulatory, consent, corporate and operational requirements. Provide leadership to foster ahigh-performing environmental culture that proactively identifies and manages risk, drives accountability and supports safe, sustainable and compliantoperations. Develop and deliver environmental strategies, objectives, targets and work programmes aligned with corporate direction, legal obligations, operational priorities, site risks and stakeholder expectations. Lead, mentor and develop the operational Environment Team, ensuring appropriate capability, succession planning, performance management, training and resource allocation to support current and future operational requirements. Manage departmental operating and capital budgets, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and environmental objectives are delivered within approved expenditure limits. Ensure the timely preparation and submission of environmental monitoring, compliance and performance reporting requirements. Coordinate and oversee all environmental monitoring programmes, including surface water, groundwater, water quality, geochemical, air quality, noise, vibration, settlement, ecological and rehabilitation monitoring, ensuring monitoring is completed in accordance with consent conditions, management plans and regulatory requirements. Lead the investigation of environmental incidents, ensuring findings are documented and appropriate corrective and preventive actions are implemented and tracked tocompletion. Lead rehabilitation and closure planning activities, including annual rehabilitation work programmes, progressive rehabilitation implementation, rehabilitation performance monitoring and annual bondreviews. Manage relationships with regulators, consultants, technical reviewers and other external stakeholders to support compliance, environmental performance and successful approvaloutcomes. Ensure appropriate professional development or training plans are in place to meet safety and process requirements and to harness the skills, competencies and potential that exists within theteam. Qualifications Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Ecology, Earth Sciences, or arelated discipline. Full and current New Zealand Driver Licence; ability to operate manual vehiclespreferred. Minimum 7 years’ experience in environmental management within the mining, quarrying, natural resources, infrastructure or other highly regulatedindustries. Demonstrated leadership experience, including the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, set clear objectives, develop capability and deliver outcomes throughothers. Strong knowledge of New Zealand environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks, including the Resource Management Act, planning processes, consent compliance and environmental approvalpathways. Proven ability to develop, implement and maintain environmental management systems, including ISO 14001 or equivalentframeworks.
