Auckland Youth Voice (AYV) is looking for a facilitator to lead and support the Upper Harbour Youth Council to build their leadership, civic and youth engagement capabilities. Job title: Youth Development Facilitator Reports to: Youth Development Manager Location: hybrid, requiring travel within the Upper Harbour Local Board area Pay: $30.00 per hour Our Organisation Auckland Youth Voice (AYV) is a charity that provides facilitation and fund-holding services for Youth Voice Groups (YVGs). These are groups of young people funded by Local Boards across Auckland to provide their board areas with a youth perspective in decision-making and deliver events that empower local youth. AYV was established by former YVG members to support these groups. AYV contracts a team of Youth Development Facilitators to work directly with YVGs, supported by the Youth Development Manager. The Role You will provide facilitation to the Upper Harbour Youth Council (UHYC) on behalf of Auckland Youth Voice (AYV), and provide administrative support to AYV. The facilitator will take a leadership role within UHYC, empower UHYC to grow their capacity and reach, help provide continuity by supporting key annual cohort transition periods, upskill young people for success, and carry out core functions in a manner that sustains UHYC. Key Responsibilities As facilitator you will be expected to carry out a range of tasks that support UHYC, including: Mentoring: You will work alongside UHYC members to mentor, build skills, and support their development in action. Group Leadership: You will take a leadership role within UHYC, collaborating with youth leaders to manage the wider group, facilitate regular operations, and oversee internal youth volunteer management and budgeting. Risk Management: You will ensure UHYC is adhering to AYV policies, assess risks, and implement mitigation strategies. Support Youth Voice Group Outcomes and Delivery: You will support UHYC to develop and deliver an annual plan of events, opportunities, projects, and general operations that engage young people across the Upper Harbour Local Board area. Relationship Management: You will manage relationships with AYV, Upper Harbour Local Board, Local Board staff, Auckland Council staff, and key regional youth stakeholders. Reporting: You will provide regular reports and updates to Auckland Council, Upper Harbour Local Board, and AYV. Professional Development: You will engage in opportunities to grow your own knowledge and skills to strengthen your ability to support UHYC. About You This is a unique role with the opportunity to make a big difference in the lives of young people in Upper Harbour. We are interested in candidates with a diverse range of skillsets and backgrounds, but some of the key traits and skills that we are looking for are: At least 1 year of facilitation or leadership experience is required for this role, including paid or voluntary experience. Experience working with young people between the ages 12-24 is required ; this is not limited to paid experience, and could include holding a position of leadership within a youth-based group or some other form of voluntary experience. Experience, qualifications, or active study towards qualification in areas including youth work, youth development, education, social work, political sciences, law, community development, or health and wellbeing would be advantageous, but are not essential . Experience as a member of an Auckland Council Local Board-funded Youth Voice Group is desirable, but not essential . An interest in local government is advantageous. In-depth knowledge is not required . Some understanding of or interest in government systems and spaces is ideal. Some event management skills, including basic understanding of budgeting, timelining, and contacting external service providers and vendors. Contract Arrangements This is a contract role running from early October 2026 to 30 June 2027, with the intention to renew. On average we expect this role to take 8-10 hours per week, including weekly UHYC meetings from 5-7pm on Mondays, with flexibility available as to when other hours are worked.
