Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role Are you an experienced safety leader who enjoys influencing strategy, driving continuous improvement, and building strong safety cultures? We are seeking a Safety Lead to shape and enhance our Safety Management System, provide expert advice across the organisation, and help ensure our people return home safe every day. Reporting to the Interim Chief People Officer, this senior specialist role works closely with the Executive Leadership Team, Board, leaders, and regulators. You will also be the nominated Senior Person accountable for MetService's Safety Management System under our Civil Aviation Authority Part 174 Exposition, making this a key organisational leadership role. In This Role You Will Lead the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of MetService's Safety Strategy Management System Provide strategic and operational health and safety advice across the organisation Support compliance with health and safety legislation, aviation safety requirements, and regulatory obligations Lead incident response, investigations and corrective action processes Build organisational capability through coarching, training and practical guidance Partner with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen risk management and improve outcomes Prepare reporting for the Board, Executive Leadership Team and regulators What You Will Bring At least five years' experience in a senior health and safety role A relevant health and safety qualification Strong knowledge of New Zealand health and safety legislation and regulatory frameworks The ability to influence, coach and build trusted relationships at all levels of an organisation Strong analytical, problem-solving and report-writing skills Experience in aviation or another highly regulated industry would be advantageous He Kōrero Mōu – About You You are a pragmatic and influential safety professional who combines strong technical expertise with excellent relationship-building skills. You can move confidently between the boardroom and the frontline, providing trusted advice while helping leaders and teams put safety into practice. As part of this, we will be bringing together the significant capabilities and resources of MetService and Earth Sciences to provide the best weather, climate and associated impacts forecasting system for New Zealand now and into the future. To achieve this Earth Sciences will acquire MetService as a wholly owned subsidiary, with MetService retaining its role as New Zealand's authorised meteorological voice.
