Job Description
Venture Timaru Limited is the Council Controlled Organisation (CCO) responsible for economic development and destination promotion (tourism) for the Timaru District. It is a 100% subsidiary of Timaru District Council (the Shareholder), constituted under the Companies Act 1993 and operating in accordance with the Local Government Act 2002. Venture Timaru also contracts the Timaru and Geraldine Visitor Information Centres. Venture Timaru's mission is to enable a vibrant and thriving community by cultivating and promoting the economic success of the district, focused on four core pillars: Business Attraction (attracting and supporting new businesses that strengthen and diversify the district’s economy), Business Development (enabling existing business to innovate, grow and improve productivity), Investment (supporting and advocating for investment in the economic enablers that underpin long‑term district growth), and Promotion (promoting the Timaru District as a compelling place to visit, live and work). The Role / Person Venture Timaru is looking for passionate and experienced Independent Directors to join our Board. As a Council‑Controlled Organisation, Venture Timaru works alongside Timaru District Council, local businesses, mana whenua, and regional partners to support sustainable economic development and create opportunities that benefit our district and community. This is an opportunity to contribute your governance experience, knowledge, and judgement to an organisation that plays an important role in supporting the growth and development of Timaru and South Canterbury. As a Director, you will provide independent oversight, strategic guidance, and constructive contest to the Board, working alongside fellow Directors and the Chief Executive to support strong governance and effective delivery of Venture Timaru's objectives. We are looking for individuals who bring a broad understanding of leadership, sound judgement, and the ability to contribute strategically in a changing environment. Relevant experience in governance, change management, tourism and hospitality, stakeholder engagement, or economic growth would be valuable. Applicants should be able to offer fresh insight, constructive challenge, and practical decision‑making experience gained across a range of sectors or organisations. Knowledge of Timaru and the wider South Canterbury region is helpful, but not essential, and we welcome applicants who can bring diverse perspectives and skills.
