Help Shape the Future of Timber Construction in New Zealand and Beyond Job Description Senior Analyst Role type: Permanent, Full-time Location: Wellington or Rotorua Salary band & range: General Salary Range D - $102,953 to $125,000 depending on skills and experience Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role Are you interested in timber buildings, construction innovation, and the role policy and standards play in enabling market growth? We're looking for a Senior Analyst to join our Sector Strategy team within Te Uru Rākau, New Zealand Forest Service. The role gives you the chance to influence how timber products are used in the built environment, support export growth, and help position New Zealand as a global leader in wood solutions. This role blends policy and strategy. We need someone who understands how building systems work, sees the opportunities timber creates, and can connect industry, government, and international partners to deliver change. What will success in the role look like? Success means helping unlock opportunities that grow New Zealand's wood processing sector and increase the use of timber products domestically and internationally. Supporting key international markets with standards that build understanding of New Zealand radiata pine and its advantages Contributing to policy and strategic work that expands New Zealand's opportunities domestically and globally, while helping the sector move up the value chain Influencing policy and strategic initiatives that drive innovation and long-term sector growth Building relationships across government, industry, and international partners to advance shared objectives Mōu - About You You may come from a range of backgrounds, including: Policy or strategic advisory roles in industry or government Architecture Building and construction Wood processing or timber engineering Building regulation or standards development We're especially interested in candidates who can show: Strategic and policy thinking, and the ability to understand broad, complex systems An understanding of how government decision-making works Experience influencing outcomes across multiple organisations and stakeholders Knowledge of building codes, standards, or regulatory systems Commercial awareness and an understanding of market drivers Strong written and verbal communication skills Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders in New Zealand and internationally You don't need to be a career policy professional. But you do need to understand how government and policy processes work, and how strategic advice can drive change. Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the team The Sector Strategy team works across the forestry and wood processing system to find opportunities that drive innovation, productivity, resilience, and economic growth. A key focus in this role is on unlocking opportunities for timber and engineered wood products through policy, strategic standards, and market development. You will lead and support work that: Provides strategic and policy advice that shapes government priorities, and long-term growth Supports market development initiatives in priority markets Supports greater use of timber in the built environment Advances timber and building standards and policy work in New Zealand and internationally This role gives you the chance to work on issues that matter to New Zealand's productivity and export performance.
