Clinical Nurse Specialist:Stem Cell Transplant (SCT) - Haematology Be part of New Zealands largest hospital and the Regional Cancer and Blood service Provide active and supportive Haematology care to patients within the Northern Region Catchment Area Permanent full-time and part-time Senior Nursing opportunities available The Haematology Service at Auckland City Hospital is comprised of a 30-bed inpatient unit including 15 bone marrow transplantation (SCT) beds, a Haematology Day Stay Unit and outpatient clinics. The regional SCT service covers Northland and the greater Auckland region for autologous and allograft transplants and includes the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Lakes and Tairawhiti DHBs for allogeneic transplants. About the Role As a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) SCT , you will provide specialist support for patients with haematological conditions, particularly those undergoing bone marrow transplantation. In this role, you will demonstrate expert clinical knowledge, advanced assessment and clinical decision‑making skills, and the ability to work autonomously while maintaining strong interdisciplinary collaboration. You will be responsible for coordinating and delivering care for patients undergoing transplantation, ensuring care is safe, evidence‑based, and centred on the needs of patients and their whānau. You will also provide leave cover for CNS colleagues as required. Once established and confident in your core SCT CNS responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to expand your scope of practice by developing expertise in the post-transplant outpatient setting , supporting both service continuity and your ongoing professional development. In this role, you will : Case manage patient through SCT journey from pre-transplant work up to intra/post-transplant phase. Attend specialist appointments and complete SCT education. Present patients at weekly planning meetings. Confirm conditioning regimens, protocols, admission dates, and Day 0. Manage chemotherapy prescribing in Raurau Ngaehe. Support the SCT RN Coordinator with complex cases and protocol issues. Provide pre-admission education and address patient queries. Coordinate stem cell infusions with relevant services. Arrange after-hours documentation and procedures as required. Participate in ward rounds and provide inpatient care coordination and support. Educate patients on post-transplant care and recovery and contribute to quality improvement, incident management, and SCT governance meetings. Deliver transplant-related education to nursing staff and support RN Coordinator upskilling. Provide cross-cover, workload support, and continuity of care through effective handovers. Upskilling and training: Individualised plan will be formulated. You are an excellent communicator, adaptable and work well within a team.
