Mō tēnei mahi | About this job Te Ara Hihiri is a programme designed to support thedevelopment of literacy and numeracy skills for people in prison in Aotearoa.Classes are small, capped at 6 tauira per class. Reporting to one of ourregional managers, you’ll work closely with Ara Poutama/ Department ofCorrections’ staff who will provide you with training, advice, and support. Contract: Fixed Term until mid-March 2027 Location : Whanganui Days: Monday - Friday As an inspiring Kaiako, your responsibilities will include: Teachingtauira who have been assessed at step 1 or 2 on the Literacy and Numeracyfor Adult Assessment Tool to develop their capability. Developinglearning and lesson plans tailored to the needs of each tauira. Contributingto the development of teaching resources. Maintainingrecords of tauira assessment results, attendance, progress, and feedback. Ensuringcompliance to regulatory and contractual requirements. We ‘re looking for someone who has the following: Ateaching or training background. NationalCertificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (Vocational) - Level5, or a comparable, relevant teaching qualification. Goodknowledge of te reo/tikanga Māori (Level 2 or above), or a willingness tolearn. Afull NZ driver’s license. Experiencewith foundation learners an advantage. Theability to pass Police Vetting is essential to ensure access to prisonfacilities. If you have teaching or training experience, we can supportyou to undertake additional study/ training to meet the other rolerequirements. As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness toparticipate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of ĀhuatangaMāori (values, culture and tikanga) is desirable.
