Mo tenei turanga mahi | The opportunity We are looking for an experienced Senior Employment Relations Advisor to provide expert, strategic and practical advice across Massey University. You will navigate complex employment matters, build trusted relationships with leaders, managers and unions, and strengthen manager capability and consistent, fit-for-purpose ER practice. Working across a large and diverse organisation, you will influence organisational change, policy, collective employment matters and the continued development of our People & Culture function. Nga mahi ka mahia e koe | What you'll do Provide expert employment relations advice to leaders and managers across a broad range of complex people matters. Lead and advise on disciplinary processes, performance matters, personal grievances, workplace investigations, restructures and exits. Identify and manage employment relations risk, providing pragmatic and legally sound recommendations. Support significant organisational change, including consultation and implementation processes. Provide specialist advice on employment legislation, employment agreements, policies and regulatory requirements. Contribute to collective bargaining strategy and build constructive, long-term relationships with unions. Support the management and resolution of employment disputes, including mediation and engagement with external legal advisers where required. Develop and influence employment-related policies, frameworks and guidance. Coach and support leaders to build confidence and capability in managing employment matters. Ko wai koe | About you You will be an experienced employment relations practitioner who combines strong technical knowledge with sound judgement, credibility and the ability to influence. You’ll bring: At least five years' experience in an employment relations role, ideally within a large and complex organisation. A relevant tertiary qualification, with a focus on human resource management, law or a related discipline . Strong knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation and contemporary employment relations practice. Proven experience advising on complex employment matters including organisational change, performance, disciplinary processes, investigations, conflict and employee relations. Experience engaging with unions and employee representatives on individual and collective matters. The ability to translate complex legal and employment relations issues into clear, practical advice for leaders. Strong relationship-building, communication, coaching and influencing skills. The confidence to exercise judgement, challenge constructively and operate effectively in situations where issues may be sensitive or complex. You’ll be comfortable balancing competing priorities, working collaboratively across People & Culture, and building trusted relationships while maintaining appropriate confidentiality and professional independence.
