Academic Advice at Massey University is a vital part of the student experience, supporting individuals from their first enquiry through to graduation. In this role, you'll combine your subject expertise, critical thinking, and passion for helping others to guide students in shaping meaningful academic pathways that align with their goals and aspirations. You’ll work with students navigating complex decisions, using your ability to interpret academic regulations and translate them into clear, practical advice. We currently have an opportunity based on our Manawatū campus and particularly welcome applicants with subject knowledge in Business and Humanities Academic Advisor What you'll be doing Partner with students to co-create personalised academic pathways that meet qualification requirements Support prospective and current students with complex academic planning and decision-making Maintain a caseload of students, providing proactive, strengths-focused advising supporting success and retention Interpret and apply academic policies and regulations to real-world student scenarios Deliver guidance through one‑on‑one sessions, group advising, and presentations Collaborate with academic and professional staff to ensure a connected and supportive student experience What success looks like Students feel informed, confident, and supported in their study decisions Complex academic pathways are clearly mapped and achievable Strong relationships built across teams and stakeholders You contribute to a high-quality, student‑centred advice service What you’ll bring Qualifications A bachelor's degree is essential; a postgraduate qualification is an advantage Experience and capability At least 3 years' experience in advising, coaching, or guidance‑based roles Proven ability to interpret and apply policies, regulations, or complex information in a client‑focused way Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and adapt to individual needs Experience supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds and understanding the challenges of the student journey Confidence using digital systems (e.g. CRM tools, Microsoft 365) to manage information and caseloads Ability to think critically, problem‑solve, and manage competing priorities We also value: An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its relevance in Aotearoa New Zealand Cultural capability, including working with Māori and diverse communities A strengths‑based, empathetic approach to supporting others Why join Massey Massey University is committed to being a Tiriti‑led organisation and creating a supportive, inclusive environment where both staff and students thrive.
