About the Role We have an exciting opportunity for a Medical Officer or a General Psychiatrist to join our Community Mental Health and Addiction service. You would be part of a team of 9 Consultant Psychiatrists based at the Whanganui hospital. In this role, you will provide Opioid Substitution Treatment (OST) for patients across the district in accordance with the New Zealand OST guidelines. The appointee will work with senior psychiatrists and mental health and addiction services clinician colleagues and have close liaison with general practitioners and pharmacists. Provide a referral, assessment, alcohol and drug interventions and duty intervention service within Alcohol and Drug Services. You will contribute to the ongoing improvement of the service by participating in the development and delivery of quality enhancement initiatives. There will be no on-call requirement for this role. About the Team/Service/ Location Whanganui Hospital is located on the West coast of New Zealand's North Island with a wide range of services including emergency medicine, general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedics, O&G, ENT, ophthalmology, dentistry and psychiatry. We serve a population of approximately 65,000 residents and serves as a central hub for the 16,000 people residing in the surrounding districts across the region. We provide a six-bed critical care unit with tertiary support from Wellington Hospital. Tertiary services such as cardio-thoracics, neurosurgery, paediatric surgery and cardiology are provided for our patients in Wellington. Our Mental Health and Addiction Services have a multidisciplinary team (MDT) of health professionals who work together with the service user and their family to ensure they receive integrated care to help with their recovery and discharge.
