The Laboratory Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the laboratory and quality assurance functions within a2 Milk Company infant formula manufacturing environment based in Pokeno. This position supports the integrity of our Laboratory Quality Management Systems and processes through accurate sampling, sample management and testing, quality control, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Sample and Management Prepare subsamples from daily factory production samples under aseptic conditions. Ensure correct documentation for the timely dispatch of labelled samples to internal and external labs. Ensure accurate sample registration on LIMS. Ensure disposal of used samples and consumables as per defined procedures. Laboratory Testing Conduct defined physical, chemical, microbiological, and sensory tests as per approved procedures. Ensure samples are accurately labelled, stored, and handled to preserve integrity prior to testing or submission. Equipment Maintenance and Calibration: Maintain laboratory equipment ensuring functionality and compliance with calibration schedules. Escalate equipment issues to Laboratory Technical Manager or Laboratory Manager. Coordinate with suppliers or service providers for repairs as needed. Prepare swabs, complete swabbing, perform environmental sample collection, and submit samples per approved procedures as required. Maintain accurate records of sample preparation, storage, and submission. Record Keeping and Compliance: Maintain accurate and organized records of all laboratory activities, including training records, sample preparation, equipment maintenance, and test results. Adhere to company and regulatory standards for health, safety, and hygiene. Actively participate in audits and inspections as required. Collaboration and Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve laboratory workflows, methods, accuracy, and efficiency. Identify and implement improvements in environmental sampling to enhance hygiene in the production environment and laboratory. Identify, log, and elevate quality risks and non-conformances. About you Perform statistical analysis on test data Ability to use Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) Laboratory skills in pipetting, reagent preparation and sample scheduling Able to communicate information clearly and escape critical issues. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, Power Point. Reliable, punctual, and able to travel to our Pokeno site Experience working in a ISO17025 laboratory or, Experience using basic laboratory analytical equipment. Knowledge in current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
