Wellington City Mission (WCM) is looking for an experienced, grounded and relational Manuhiri Wellbeing Manager to join our team at Te Pā Pori. This is not a traditional office-based management role. You will be visible and present within the Te Pā Pori community, working directly alongside manuhiri while also providing day-to-day leadership and supervision to the Kaiwhakarite. At the heart of the role is helping create a community where people can live well alongside one another – with dignity, connection, clear expectations and shared responsibility. Build trusted relationships, lead restorative responses and support a community where dignity and accountability sit alongside each other. About the role As Manuhiri Wellbeing Manager, you will support the wellbeing, community living and tenancy sustainability of manuhiri living at Te Pā Pori. You will help manuhiri understand and positively engage with the Te Pā Pori Kawenata, strengthen positive community expectations and use restorative approaches when challenges arise. Some days this will mean encouragement, connection and practical support. Other days it will mean facilitating restorative conversations, de-escalating conflict or respectfully addressing behaviour that is affecting other people. You will need to be able to build genuine relationships without stepping away from accountability. You will also lead and support the Kaiwhakarite, helping ensure their mahi is coordinated with the needs and priorities of the Te Pā Pori community. What you'll be doing Build relationships and strengthen community – maintain a visible, consistent presence and build authentic, respectful relationships with manuhiri. Support restorative practice – facilitate restorative conversations, navigate conflict and hold courageous conversations when behaviour or actions impact others. Support wellbeing and tenancy sustainability – identify emerging concerns early and work alongside manuhiri and support teams to strengthen stability and positive outcomes. Provide leadership – supervise, support and provide day-to-day direction to the Kaiwhakarite, including their development and wellbeing. Work collaboratively – partner with Te Pā Pori teams and wider WCM colleagues to ensure responses are coordinated, consistent and mana-enhancing. About you You may come from social services, homelessness, housing, mental health, addiction, peer support or another community-based environment. More important than a particular professional background is your ability toconnect with people, remain calm when situations become challenging and hold clear boundaries with compassion and respect. You’ll bring at least three years' experience working alongside vulnerable communities, including people experiencing homelessness, addiction and/or mental health challenges; significant experience holding difficult conversations respectfully and effectively; experience using restorative or relational approaches to conflict and behaviour; strong relationship-building and communication skills; experience providing leadership, supervision or guidance to others; the ability to remain calm, fair and effective in challenging situations; an ability to balance manaakitanga and compassion with accountability and clear expectations ; relevant lived experience, community support or social service experience; and a current full New Zealand driver's licence. A relevant qualification in social services, peer support or a related field would be advantageous. Hours and location This is a full-time, permanent position of 40 hours per week, based primarily at Te Pā Pori, Tory Street, Wellington. Being present when the Te Pā Pori community is active is important, so the usual working pattern includes: three shifts per week: 8.00am–4.30pm at least one weekend day per month Ready to make a difference?
