The Role Reporting to the Head of Power Systems, you'll be a member of Ergo's Power systems Leadership Team, responsible for leading Ergo's team of Protection Engineers. This dynamic role will see you managing a highly experienced team whilst developing and delivering complex technical solutions. Key responsibilities include, Leading Ergo's Protection section. You'll oversee utilisation levels, resource planning, and provide technical guidance. Creating high-quality engineering solutions as a Protection Engineer, Secondary Design Engineer, or in a related HV discipline. Strengthening existing client relationships while identifying and developing new opportunities within the energy sector, including proposal preparation, project oversight, and quality assurance. Collaborating closely with the Head of Power Systems and broader leadership team to drive business performance, capability development, and strategic initiatives. Providing mentorship & professional development for aspiring Protection Engineers across junior, intermediate and graduate levels Expanding and enhancing the team's capabilities by attracting, developing, and retaining high-performing engineering talent. Contributing to the continued growth and reputation of Ergo's Protection Engineering practice as a recognised leader within the power industry. About You Coming from a background as a well-regarded engineering expert and people leader, this role is a rare and desirable opportunity step into a leadership position with a market leading engineering consultancy. Bringing experience as a Team Leader or Manager, you'll bring a proven expertise in the energy sector with, Demonstrated experience delivering complex technical solutions as a Protection Engineer, Substation Design Engineer, Power Systems Engineer, or within a related HV/MV engineering discipline. Proven leadership experience as a Team Lead, or Engineering Manager, with responsibility for building, developing, and leading high-performing technical teams. Strong knowledge of New Zealand electricity industry standards, specifications, and engineering practices, with the ability to apply them effectively across a range of projects. A tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline. Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions, influence stakeholders, and clearly document outcomes and decisions. A collaborative, people-focused leadership style, with a passion for mentoring, coaching, and developing engineering talent. A strong commitment to technical excellence, innovation, and the continued growth of Ergo's Protection Engineering capability. Commercial awareness and a client-centric mindset, with the ability to foster trusted relationships and contribute to business growth.
