Auckland Museum’s Sheldon Werner Summer Studentship Programme 2026 Auckland War Memorial Museum – Newmarket, North Island Auckland War Memorial Museum: Connecting through sharing stories of people, lands and seas Auckland Museum is a much-loved culture and heritage organisation at the heart of Auckland’s identity, committed to developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibition, events and educational programmes. We are Auckland's home of commemoration as well as the country’s oldest research institution and a major tourist destination. Our summer studentship opportunities enable students to learn more about the research and practice of Auckland Museum. Students will work alongside Museum staff to undertake a project that enables them to gain experience in an area of museum practice or research that they are interested in and that complements their studies. The Summer Studentship will be approximately ten weeks in length, with training running from 16 November 2026 to 12 February 2027, with a break over the Christmas and New Year period. A stipend of $7000 is awarded to each successful student. Applicants should be available for an assessment centre, which will be held at Auckland Museum on the 5th of October 2026. For students located out of Auckland, arrangement for assessment can be made. Students must be currently enrolled in a New Zealand tertiary institution, have completed at least two years of a tertiary course, and eligible to study in New Zealand to apply for the summer studentships. To be successful, you will have: Completed at least two years of a tertiary qualification. Have a strong academic record. Be able to work independently, curious, interested, and eager to learn. Evidence of ability to manage time. Ability to take initiative, ‘have a go’ and think creatively in terms of problem-solving. Strong attention to detail. Be hard working and diligent.
