Job Description

Lead the Office of the Executive Regional Director and shape strategic priorities across a complex regional health system. Act as a trusted adviser and strategic integrator, connecting clinical and administrative leaders to drive alignment, execution and performance. Influence at the highest levels to navigate complexity, accelerate delivery and improve care for communities across the region. The Central Region Central Region (Te Ikaroa) has approximately 20,000 employees providing health services to our communities through district, regional and some national services. The region stretches from Hawkes Bay and Whanganui in the north, Horowhenua and Kapiti Coast to the west, Palmerston North in the centre, Wairarapa to the east, and Hutt Valley and Wellington to the south. Our region is sparsely populated with most of the population clustered in urban areas: Napier, Hastings, Palmerston North, Whanganui, Paraparaumu, Waikanae, Porirua, Hutt Valley and Wellington. About the Role The Director, Office of the Executive Regional Director (ERD) leads the ERD's office and works closely with the broader regional leadership team to ensure alignment, drive execution and strengthen delivery across the region. This is a high-leverage role that brings together strategy, operations, communication and leadership to accelerate progress against key performance measures, with a particular focus on delivering better care for our communities. The role supports regional effectiveness and strategic initiatives, ensuring priorities are aligned and translated into action. As a trusted adviser, integrator, problem solver and communication hub, you will enable the ERD to focus on high-impact priorities while ensuring the region operates efficiently and effectively. The Director, Office of the ERD plays a critical role in navigating complexity, coordinating across clinical and administrative functions, and supporting regional leaders in a rapidly evolving environment. About You You are an experienced senior leader who brings strategic judgement, operational leadership and a strong understanding of healthcare and the public sector. You are confident navigating complex government, ministerial and stakeholder environments and know how to translate strategy into focused, practical action. You thrive in complex, fast-moving environments, bringing clarity to competing priorities and connecting people, information and decisions to maintain momentum and deliver results. As a trusted adviser and influential leader, you build alignment across clinical and administrative functions, influence without relying on formal authority, and bring people together to deliver outcomes that improve regional performance and care for our communities.
