Mō te ůunga | About the role The Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Training and Certification role is a key advisory position within RNZAF Base Ohakea, responsible for developing and sustaining NDT capability across the Air Force. Combining technical expertise, training leadership, and continuous improvement, this role provides specialist guidance on NDT training and certification. What You'll Be Doing Deliver and coordinate NDT training, developing EN4179-certified technicians through coaching, mentoring, and hands-on learning. Provide technical advice on NDT equipment, inspection methods, publications, and engineering change activities, ensuring capability remains current and effective. Develop workforce capability, guiding personnel through training pathways, continuation training, proficiency reviews, and professional development initiatives. Champion compliance and technical excellence, ensuring NDT activities align with RNZAF policies, standards, procedures, and certification requirements. Drive innovation and continuous improvement, introducing emerging technologies, modern methodologies, and industry best practices into NDT training and operations. Strong knowledge of NDT inspection practices, including training and certification requirements, with the ability to apply technical airworthiness policies, standards, and procedures within an aviation maintenance environment. A minimum of five years' experience as an EN4179 Level 2 NDT Technician and experience delivering high-quality inspection outcomes. EN4179 Level 2 certification in Liquid Penetrant (PT), Magnetic Particle (MT), Eddy Current (ET), Ultrasonic (UT), and Radiographic Testing (RT) and a current New Zealand Industrial Radiographers Licence (desirable). At least five years' experience in the aircraft maintenance industry, with a practical understanding of maintenance operations and aviation engineering practices. Security Clearance Requirements To be eligible for the required level of government security clearance with the NZ Defence Force, you need to meet certain citizenship and residency criteria. Here's what you need to know: Higher Level Security Clearance You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa. At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last ten (10) years. You must have a ten (10) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
