Full lifeguard and first aid training provided Competitive pay – we are a Living Wage employer About the role Join Hutt City Council’s Aquatics team and help keep Lower Hutt’s outdoor pools safe, welcoming and enjoyable this summer. We have a range of fixed-term Lifeguard opportunities available at: Wainuiomata Summer Pool These roles are fixed term from 14 November 2026 to 6 March 2027 , for the summer pool season (dates may vary slightly). You must be available for the full fixed term period and able to work your agreed roster, including weekends and public holidays. Please outline any planned leave or other commitments in your cover letter. What you’ll do As a Lifeguard, you’ll: Supervise pool users and help keep everyone safe Respond calmly and effectively in an emergency Provide friendly and helpful customer service Complete poolside checks and water testing Assist with cleaning, equipment setup and general pool operations About you Previous lifeguard experience isn’t essential – we’ll provide the training and support you need. We’re looking for people who: Are confident in the water and can complete a 200-metre freestyle swim in under six minutes Are responsible, reliable and safety-conscious Stay calm under pressure and enjoy working with the public Have a positive attitude and work well in a team Are comfortable working outdoors in changing summer conditions Can commit to the full summer pool season Successful applicants will need to hold or complete the required Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate and First Aid Certificate before beginning poolside duties. Please note: To become a qualified Pool Lifeguard, you must be aged 16 or older. Applicants must therefore be at least 16 by 1 October 2026. The lifeguard training course is set for: Lifeguard Course Day 2: Thursday 1 October 2026, 8am - 5pm Lifeguard Course Assessment: Wednesday 7 October 2026, 9am - 3pm Successful applicants must be available to attend all 3 sessions The first aid training course is set for: Saturday 26 September 2026, 8am - 4.30pm; or Tuesday 29 September 2026, 8am - 4.30pm Successful applicants can choose 1 of these sessions or liaise with us to be booked on a public course.
