Due to the expansion of the FMA’s regulatory remit, we are looking for a Senior Adviser to join our Consumer Credit team on fixed term contract/secondment until July 2027 .Working at the forefront of an evolving regulatory environment,you'llhelp ensure lenders put good consumer outcomes at the centre of their decision-making, contributing to faireroutcomes for Aotearoa. Working as part of a collaborativeteam, your mahi will include: Leadingmonitoring and supervisory engagements across a broad range of consumer credit providers. Assessingpotential misconduct and consumer harm, recommendingappropriate regulatoryresponses and interventions. Analysinginformation, industrytrendsand emerging risks to help shape the FMA's supervisory approach. Buildingconstructive relationships with lenders, industryparticipantsand other stakeholders to encourage positive conduct outcomes. Workingclosely with colleagues across Policy, Legal, Enforcement and Licensing to deliver coordinated regulatory responses. Providingsubject matterexpertiseon consumer credit issues and support capability development across the wider FMA. With more than 500 lendersoperatingacrossthe country, no two days are the same.You'llengage directly with regulated entities, considercomplaintsand market intelligence, and helpidentifyopportunities to lift standards across the sector. As the regulatory landscape continues to evolve, this is an opportunity to work on complex and meaningful issues that have a direct impact on consumers and communities throughout Aotearoa. You may currently be working in a regulatory, compliance, risk, legal, audit,bankingor financial services environment.Ideally,you’llbring experience within consumer lending, retail banking, financialregulationor another field whereyou'veassessed risk, exercised soundjudgementand worked through complex issues. You'llbring: Experience analysing complex information and providing well-reasoned recommendations,adviceor decisions. An understanding of consumer lending, credit, conduct risk,complianceor regulatory frameworks. Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability toidentifypotential consumer harm and determineappropriate responses. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage confidently with a wide range of stakeholders. Sound judgement,resilienceand the ability to navigate ambiguity in a thoughtful and pragmatic way. Strong relationship-building skills and a collaborative approach to working with others. The ability to influence outcomes and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences. A genuine interest in consumer outcomes and the role regulation plays in building trust and confidence inAotearoa’sfinancial sector.
