Darling Horticultural Services is seeking an experienced and hands-on Orchard Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our avocado orchard in beautiful Tapora, Kaipara Harbour. This is an opportunity for someone who loves being outdoors, enjoys leading people, and takes pride in growing high-quality produce. Reporting to the Orchard Operations Manager - Far North, you’ll take ownership of orchard performance, lead a small permanent team, work alongside contractors, and play a key role in delivering production, quality, and safety outcomes. What you’ll be doing As Orchard Manager, you’ll be responsible for the planning and execution of all orchard operations, including: Irrigation, nutrition, spraying, pruning, pollination, and harvest activities Developing and implementing weekly, monthly, and annual orchard plans Leading and supporting a team of permanent and seasonal workers Coordinating and managing contractors Monitoring orchard performance and identifying improvement opportunities Managing machinery, equipment, and orchard infrastructure Ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and within budget Maintaining high standards of orchard presentation and asset care Driving a strong health, safety, and wellbeing culture across the site. About you We’re looking for someone who combines practical orchard expertise with strong leadership skills. You’ll ideally bring: Proven orchard management or senior horticulture experience Strong technical knowledge of orchard production systems Experience leading and developing teams Excellent planning and organisational skills Sound financial awareness and budget management capability A proactive, hands-on approach to solving problems Confidence using technology and operational systems A positive attitude and commitment to continuous improvement A strong focus on health, safety, and wellbeing.
