We're a hands-on team working on a wide range of structural steel projects, from large commercial builds through to more specialised and challenging jobs. We're currently looking for an experienced Structural Steel Painter to join our workshop team based in Kumeu. About the Role This is a hands-on role preparing and painting structural steel and fabricated steel products to a high standard. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to Prepare structural steel for painting, including cleaning, grinding, sanding and removing rust, mill scale and contaminants Apply primers and protective coatings using airless spray equipment, conventional spray, rollers and brushes Mix paints and coatings to the required specifications Apply coatings to the required coverage and thickness Complete touch-ups, repairs and remedial work where required Carry out basic quality checks, including coating thickness checks where trained Clean and maintain spray equipment and keep the work area organised Safely handle paints, solvents and other hazardous substances Assist with moving and preparing structural steel as required Follow all workshop health and safety requirements About You We're looking for someone who is hands-on, reliable and takes pride in doing a good job. You’ll understand that the quality of the finish depends heavily on getting the preparation right. You’ll be able to work efficiently in a busy workshop without cutting corners, and you’ll take safety seriously. You’ll also be comfortable with the physical nature of the role, including standing for extended periods, bending, reaching, handling equipment and working around large structural steel components. Ideally, you'll have Previous industrial, structural steel or protective coatings painting experience Experience using airless spray equipment Good knowledge of surface preparation and protective coating systemsAn understanding of paint specifications and coating requirements Experience with WFT/DFT measurements would be an advantage Good practical and mechanical ability Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work A reliable, positive attitude and the ability to work well as part of a team Forklift, overhead crane or other relevant licences would be an advantage.
